HSBC Expands International and Emerging Markets Equity Trading and Sales Trading in the US with Two Key Hires
Appointments Underscore HSBC’s International and Emerging Markets Focus

HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. today announced it has hired Alexander Shepard and Carmine Gizze as part of the institution's continued focus in international and emerging markets. Both are based in New York and join an established team of international traders and sales traders. Shepard joins as a managing director and head of equity trading and sales trading for the Americas. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations for international equity sales trading and trading. In this new role, he reports to Thomas Del Zoppo, head of equity markets, Americas.

"With Alex and Carmine and the addition of Edward De Castro last year to our international equity trading and sales trading team, we will be able to serve more of our clients demanding exposure to international and emerging markets."
Shepard joins from ABN AMRO where most recently he was a managing director, deputy head of equities and head of equity sales in New York. Prior to this, he spent ten years at UBS where he was a senior international equity sales trader servicing US institutions in non-US equities and American Depositary Receipts (ADRs).
Carmine Gizze joins HSBC's New York international equity trading team as a senior vice president. He reports to Shepard. Before joining HSBC, he was an international equity trader at ICAP Securities specializing in international ADRs. From 2000 to 2006, he served as director of international trading at WestLB Securities.
In the fall of 2006, Edward De Castro joined HSBC's New York international sales trading team from JPMorgan Chase where he was head of international sales trading. He is a senior vice president.
Most recently, HSBC appointed Stephen Matthews head of Asia sales for equity markets in the Americas. His new role will allow HSBC to further build its global equities business. From New York, Matthews and the Asia sales team provide tailored equity sales services to clients seeking Asia-related investment opportunities. Matthews joined HSBC in 2005 as a senior vice president.
HSBC maintains three primary trading hubs - London, New York and Hong Kong - as well as 22 local equity dealing desks globally. Through these 25 locations, HSBC holds direct memberships in 65 equity exchanges and ECNs and 31 derivative exchanges.
