HSBC - North America to Open Tampa Facility, Increase Area Employment by up to 500 by 2007

TAMPA and PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Ill. – Florida Gov. Jeb Bush today welcomed HSBC – North America’s announcement that it will expand its employment in the Tampa Bay region by as many as 250 by the end of this year and by 500 by the end of 2007. The top-10 financial services firm will establish an operation in Tampa’s NetPark complex to accommodate growth in customer service and management functions supporting HSBC Mortgage Services. Operations at the facility will begin in August.
“We are delighted to congratulate HSBC on the expansion of their mortgage services operations. This announcement and the expansion of HSBC’s employees signifies the continued strength of the financial services sector,” said Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. “The Financial Florida initiative has provided a great base for this industry, and Florida strongly supports efforts to grow this capital-intensive, high-technology driven sector. With the addition of HSBC we can now claim the best non-depository financial services firms in the industry, and we welcome the HSBC announcement as a strong sign of support for Florida’s business climate.”
HSBC Mortgage Services currently employs more than 1,000 in the Tampa Bay region.

HSBC - North America, including its mortgage services division, has 1,400 employees in the Tampa Bay region and more than 2,300 employees throughout the Sunshine State. The company’s consumer lending division operates 82 HFC and Beneficial branch offices in Florida, while HSBC Bank USA operates 14 retail bank branches in the state. HSBC employees statewide have been active contributors to nonprofit organizations, particularly those supporting education, health and the environment. Since Fall 2004, in the Tampa Bay region alone, HSBC and its Tampa-area employees have made financial and volunteer contributions to Junior Achievement, the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, Paint Your Heart Out Tampa, and the Emergency Care Help Organization.
