12 January 2005
Prospect Heights, Ill – January 12, 2005 – HSBC – North America today announced that Andrew Armishaw, group executive and chief information officer, HSBC – North America, has been recognized by IDG’s Computerworld magazine as one of the business world’s Premier 100 IT Leaders.
The Premier 100 IT Leaders award honors executives who show exemplary technology leadership in resolving pressing business problems. Honorees, including Armishaw, were named and profiled in the January 3, 2005 issue of Computerworld.
Armishaw was selected from nearly 600 nominees, who were measured against Computerworld’s IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describes executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations, and evaluated by the editors and by a panel of external judges.
“This award is a testament to Andrew’s contribution to our company as well as his leadership of our superb team of IT professionals,” said Bill Aldinger, chairman and CEO, HSBC – North America. “Every day, 53,000 HSBC employees rely on informational technology and systems to serve nearly 60 million customers in North America. It is gratifying to see that support recognized.”
Before serving as group-executive CIO, Armishaw was chief information officer, and then chief executive officer of First Direct, HSBC’s telephone and Internet bank. He was appointed to his current position in January 2004. Prior to joining HSBC in 1994, Armishaw held various progressive positions in technology consulting at Accenture. He received his bachelor’s and master's degrees in engineering, economics and management from Oxford University.
