Household's Employee Development Initiatives Rank Among Top 50 Nationwide
Training magazine Recognizes Household for Third Consecutive Year

, March 8, 2004 - Training magazine announced today Household International, a wholly owned subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc (NYSE: HBC), has been honored on the annual Training Top 100 ranking of companies nationwide due to the company's investment in the training and development of its employees. Ranking at number-49, 2003 marks the third consecutive year that Household has appeared on the list.The honor is awarded to a select group of leading U.S. companies that have demonstrated their commitment to providing the most advanced programming for educating, developing and training employees.

The publication's annual listing ranks companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria. Included in the quantitative criteria are:
