CHESEAPEAKE, Va. - September 26, 2003 - Household International announced today that it is contributing $100,000 to the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross. Fifty thousand dollars will be allocated to American Red Cross relief efforts in Virginia and the other half will be allocated to national efforts.
Household will present the American Red Cross with a check on the organization's telethon, which is airing this Saturday, September 27, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM on WAVY TV (Channel 10, Norfolk, Va.). All proceeds of the telethon will benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The company will also endorse its Matching Gift program to employees who wish to make a contribution to American Red Cross as well. "Household's 2,000 employees in the Hampton Roads area have all been affected by the hurricane, as have our families, neighbors and communities," said Terri Pearce, Director-Human Resources, Household International. "We hope these funds aid in the quick recovery from Hurricane Isabel and allow our community to get back to normal as soon as possible." Household has been a partner with the Red Cross for many years and continues to be impressed with the speed and quality of services the organization provides to the Hampton Roads community and the nation when there is a need. Household recently received the American Red Cross "Good Neighbor" award for the second consecutive year. This award honors organizations for their continued support of the American Red Cross. "We would again like to extend our thanks to the American Red Cross and all its volunteers for their quick and caring response to our community and the nation," said Pearce.
